Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their place in the next round of the French Ligue 1 with a hard-fought victory over Rennes at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
The match, which saw PSG win 2-1, was filled with drama and excitement as both teams fought tooth and nail for control of the game. In the first half, PSG had the better of the play but were unable to break down the Rennes defense.
In the second half, things took a turn for the worse for Rennes when they conceded a penalty after being sent off in the 58th minute. This gave PSG the chance to take control of the match and they did not disappoint.
In the 74th minute, a free-kick from Angel Di Maria found its way into the net and gave PSG the lead. However, Rennes refused to give up and managed to level the scoreline just two minutes later through a header from Benjamin Bourigeaud.
In the final moments of the match, PSG's Kylian Mbappe scored what proved to be the winning goal. The forward played a brilliant one-two with Marco Verratti before slotting home the ball past Rennes goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
With this victory, PSG remain in pole position to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition. They will face either Monaco or Marseille in the next round.
Overall, it was another impressive performance from PSG under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has already guided them to victory in the Coupe de France. With their current form, there is no doubt that PSG will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming weeks.
