Atletico Madrid defeated Real Sociedad with two goals apiece in the second leg of their Champions League tie.
The Spanish giants came into the match as the heavy favorites, but they were unable to maintain their lead and lost 2-1 after extra time.
Ramón Ibarra, who made his first appearance for Atletico in over five years, was crucial in the second half, scoring both goals.
"I thought it was going to be a tough game," said Ibarra. "We had a lot of chances to score, but we couldn't get the goal we wanted."
Despite the defeat, Atletico still managed to qualify for the next round of the competition by defeating Sevilla on aggregate.
"We're not disappointed at all," said manager Diego Simeone. "It's just that we didn't have enough quality on the pitch today. We've got to learn from this and improve."
